RED-FIGURED OENOCHOE - Lot 85
RED-FIGURED OENOCHOE Globular body tapering to the base, marked by three protrusions, high truncated cone-shaped neck, beveled spout adorned with two macaroons and vertical handles. Depicted on the body, from left to right, are a woman seated on a rock facing a satyr and another woman seated on a rock looking back. Stylized pegs in the field. Under the handle and on either side, large palmettes. The scene is framed, above, by a frieze of ovals and, below, by a frieze of chevrons to the left. The collar is adorned with a bige driven by a woman. Panthers stand beneath the horses, each going their own way. Plant scrolls on either side of the handle. Beige terracotta with pink slip, black slip, white and yellow highlights. Etruria, second half of 4th c. B.C. Height. 36 cm. Breaks and restorations. PROVENANCE.
