MONTEREAU PHILHELLENIC SERIES HISTORICAL DISH Fine earthenware, with grisaille printed decoration, of a representation captioned "Greek Committee presided over by Mr. de Chateaubriand", the wing decorated with names of heroes of the Greek Revolution and Philhellenes in laurel wreaths. Debossed. c. 1820-1830. Diameter. 24 cm. The Comité Grec de Paris was created around François-René de Chateaubriand to help the Greek people during the War of Independence (1822-1830) against the Ottoman Empire.
