EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE, PARIS, 1889 GUSTAVE EIFFEL (1832-1923) CONSOLE ORNAMENT AT THE TOP OF THE RAILING ON THE FIRST PLATFORM OF THE EIFFEL TOWER. Painted zinc, in the shape of an acanthus leaf. 1889. Height. 58 cm; Width. 68 cm; Depth. 28 cm. Metal missing, paint missing. PROVENANCE. Eiffel Tower lightening campaign, 1983. During this campaign, the Société Nouvelle d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel entrusted the Richaume company in Andresy with the task of reproducing some of the tower's ornaments, in particular the zinc ornaments. The company did not go ahead with the project, however, and left some elements behind, including this one, which was passed on to the current owner. BIBLIOGRAPHY.
