COLLECTIVE. Gazette Nationale or Le Moniteur Universel, 1789-1868. Complete set of issues bound in 166 volumes, that is 136 vols. in-folio and 30 vol. in-plano, half-basecloth, title-pieces. Bindings worn, even very damaged, torn, on a large part of the volumes. Very rare set including all volumes, notably the head of the collection. Stamp Hôtel des Invalides. 1789 to 1799, 1 vol. + alphabetical table (1st part, names of cities; 2nd part, names of characters), 1799 to 1814, 1 vol. + table; 1815 to 1821, 1 vol. + table; 1822 to 1829, 1 vol. + table; 1830 to 1840, 1 vol. + table; 1841 to 1850, 1 vol. + table. The following tables are bound into the volumes. Bindings damaged. The most extensive, curious and complete historical directory for the period it covers and especially for the History of the Revolution. The Gazette Nationale was founded, on the model of the English daily newspapers, on May 5, 1789 by the publisher Charles Joseph Panckouke. Its effective publication began on November 24, 1789. In the month of Nivôse An VIII, it became the official organ of the government. It took the title of Moniteur Universel from January 1811. The Moniteur's main editors were Marcilly, Maret, Mejan, Berquin, Ginguené, Thau-Grandville, Peuchet, Lenoir-Laroche, Jourdan, etc. PROVENANCE.
