WILLIOT Enamelled plate for Williot chicory. (green). It was in 1779 that Charles François GIRAUD introduced chicory cultivation in France and founded the first French chicory factory in Onnaing near Valenciennes. Elizabeth GIRAUD, his daughter, married Chrysosthome WILLIOT. Zulnard WILLIOT, their son, founded the factory in Poix du Nord (Nord) and the WILLIOT brand in 1880. Format: rectangular, flat, with edges and ears. Process: stencil and screen printing. Lettering: green, on a white background framed by green. Enamel: Émail Koekelberg, Belgium. Circa 1930. 47.5 x 72.3 cm.
