RARE SOU DES CHAUMIÈRES SUBSCRIPTION PANELS Cast iron, one of four-lobed shape embossed with the inscription "Souscription Nationale du Sou des Chaumières", the other of square shape embossed with the date "Juin 1875". Mounted on stapled wooden boards. 1875. Panels : Height. 29.5 cm; Width. 53.5 cm; Depth. 1 cm. Height. 14.5 cm; Width. 19.5 cm; Depth. 1.8 cm. Combined boards: Height. 53.2 cm; Width. 52.5 cm; Depth. 2.5 cm. These panels bear witness to public subscription campaigns for housing reconstruction, following the destruction caused by the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71.
