LARGE RED-FIGURE HYDRIA The body is decorated with a large amazonomachy scene on several tiered planes. Particular care is taken with the figures and horses. The neck is decorated with several registers of ovals, wavelets and palmettes. The base of the vertical handle features a rich composition of palmettes. Black-glazed beige-pink terra cotta, highlights of white and yellow paint. Greek art, Campania, 360-340 B.C. Attributed to the Painter of Cassandra. Height. 45 cm. Varnish irisation and calcareous deposit. Very good condition. PROVENANCE. . Galerie Serres, Paris, 2004. Export certificate dated 07/07/2004. . Collection Riesner, rue du Docteur Blanche, Paris, XVIth arrondissement. . Nineteenth-century collection. At the time, the vase had a brown patina typical of old collections before being cleaned as it was difficult to read.
